Buying tickets was an easy process. Standing in the queue, I looked for tickets then downloaded the app as suggested. Then the pretty quickly the team arrived to check off our tickets and handed us a map and a set of earphones each. Within a few minutes of queuing we were on the bus. Thank you to all for the very quick process (even though it looked busy with a potential long wait).

We did the Hop on Hop off busses in Palma De Mallorca as well as Barcelona! The absolute best way to get around and familiarize yourself with a city. Buses came by very frequently and the audio information that gives you highlights along the way was spectacular. This tour option is a must, the highlight of our trip.

Arriving at the cathedral, we entered the building almost immediately without queuing. There were quite a few people waiting, but luckily we didn't have to.

Entry was easy to book and you didn't have to queue. Brilliant. The cathedral itself is wonderful to look at. It has a lot of Gaudi influences, which is why it immediately reminded me of the Sagrada Familia. An enchanting play of light through the many colored glasses. It is absolutely worth a visit.

Unfortunately, finding the meeting point was a disaster, I wanted to go on my own. Please specify an exact meeting point (which is easy to find), with the indication that the guide will come there. The guided tour with the explanations was excellent, unreservedly recommendable - many thanks for that.

Top things to do in Mallorca

The Palma Cathedral is an iconic Gothic masterpiece, and in 2022, the cathedral opened up its rooftop terraces to the public. As a result, visitors can now climb up the narrow stairs past centuries-old graffiti to step out onto these terraces for a birds-eye view of the city. The terraces also offer a closer look at several elements that you’d otherwise only have been able to see from below.

The significance here is that most cathedrals don’t allow visitors onto their rooftops, and the Palma Cathedral is one of the few that leverages this as a key selling point, offering a truly unique experience.

What are the Palma Cathedral terraces?

Terrace of the Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma, or La Seu, a Gothic Roman Catholic cathedral located in Palma, Mallorca, Spain

The cathedral’s terraces, accessible from the top of its bell tower, offer fascinating views of the Mediterranean Sea and Palma’s harbor, along with a birds-eye view of the Old Town’s labyrinthine streets. Once you reach the terraces, you walk out onto the flying buttresses and roof ledges and come face-to-face with the Gothic pinnacles that you’d earlier only be able to admire from below.

The path up the bell tower, which consists of about 200 steps, features fascinating graffiti and markings on the wall made by the watchmen and refugees hiding behind the cathedral’s walls a long time ago.

The Great Rose Window

Climbing up to the terraces gets you a view of the Great Rose Window or the Eye of the Gothic from behind and right up close, offering a unique perspective to one of the largest rose windows in the world.

The bronze bells

Being on the terraces also gets you up close to the bronze bells, giving you unique photo-ops with the cathedral’s architecture creating the perfect frame.

The Gothic architecture

The terraces also give you a finer appreciation of the cathedral’s architecture. For instance, you get to see how the buttresses brace the walls and how high above the ground the vaults soar—a truly remarkable feat of engineering.
